Arthur "Dennis" Reed, born on October 30, 1953, in Opelousas, Louisiana, passed away on April 5, 2025. Dennis was a man deeply rooted in his community and known for his unwavering dedication to his beliefs and passions.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Landry Catholic Church on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Father Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and burial will be held in the St. Landry Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 10:30 a.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.
Pallbearers will be Andy Dye, Christopher Comeaux, Casey Comeaux, Scott Lavergne, A.J. Courville and Matthew Courville. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Dye and Aaron Reed.
Dennis was a 1971 graduate of AIC and then continued to get a business degree from LSU-E. He also furthered his studies by attending USL.
Dennis was a lifelong member of St. Landry Catholic Church. He led a life rich with purpose, marked by his strong Catholic faith, which guided him to lead many others to Christ throughout his journey. His commitment to this faith was evidenced by his involvement in numerous Pro-Life marches in Opelousas, a cause he held dear to his heart.
Dennis had a profound love for music and enjoyed following sports teams, particularly those of LSU and the Houston Astros. His enthusiasm for these interests brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him.
He is survived by his brother, Brent Reed and his wife, Susan; his sisters, Nell Dye and her husband, Roddy, Judy Courville and her husband, Alan, and Madelyn Reed Comeaux. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Ben Dye, Andy Dye, Alayna Dye, Lauren Dye Rogers, Aaron Reed, Sarah Courville Meche, Amanda Courville Meche, Jessica Courville, Kristen Courville Pavy, A.J. Courville, Matthew Courville, Christopher Comeaux, Casey Comeaux, along with 25 great-nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. Reed, Jr. and Kathleen Dupont Reed, as well as his paternal grandparents, A.B. Reed, Sr. and Marie Cahanin Reed, and his maternal grandparents, Ernest A. Dupont, Jr. and Emma Bergeron Dupont and his infant brother, Joseph Reed.
The memory of Dennis Reed will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as he leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and commitment to his community. He will be missed dearly but fondly remembered by family and friends alike.
