Washington - Funeral services for Anne Wartelle Hill, age 77, will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The Reverend Albert Nunez will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mrs. Anne Hill, a retired teacher and resident of Opelousas, died on Tuesday June 3, 2008 at the Opelousas General Health System. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and was active in many civic organizations. She taught at several elementary schools in St. Landry Parish for twenty-five years. She was an avid bridge player but her favorite past time was bourre and beer with her brother and sisters, but never before 10:00 a.m.
Survivors include her daughter, Freida H. DeJean and her husband, Dr. Nick DeJean of Opelousas; a son, Neild Hill of Bossier City; two sisters, Rita W. Blanchard and Catherine W. Ewell; one brother, Phil Wartelle, Jr. and wife Mae; grandchildren, Seth DeJean and his fianc Alexis Bulliard and Olivia DeJean, Morgan and Ian Hill; great grandchildren, Regan, Blue, and Parker Hill and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phil, Sr. and Josie Q. Wartelle; a sister, Claire Wartelle and brother-in-laws, Ken Daniels, Oliver Blanchard and Edmond Ewell, Sr.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 5:00- 9:00 p.m. and will re-open on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
