Grand Prairie - A Mass of Christian Burial for Andrew Soileau will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Father James "Jim" Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery in Grand Prairie.
Andrew Soileau, age 83, was a native of Grand Prairie and a resident of Port Barre, LA. He passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Opelousas General Health System. He worked as a truck driver for American Can Company until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked as a chauffeur for New Orleans Limo Company for 10 years. He was a member of the CFMA-New Orleans Chapter and United Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting, and listening to Cajun Music on KBON. His cherished moments of his life were spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Robby Soileau, Sr. and wife, Misty of Port Barre; and Scott Soileau and wife, Paula of LaPlace; daughter, Janell Soileau of Metairie; three brothers, Vernel Soileau of Opelousas; Rae Burke Soileau of Opelousas; and Malcolm Soileau and wife, Jane of Metairie; sister, Rosa May Smith of Port Barre; four grandchildren: Robby Soileau, Jr., Justin Soileau, Jordan Soileau, and Taylor Soileau; one great-grandchild, Brynlee Soileau; mother of his children, Bertha Darbonne Soileau of Metairie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cenia and Ernestine Soileau; brothers, Mervis Soileau and Landry Soileau; sisters-in-law, Joy Soileau and Anna Lou Soileau; and brother-in-law, Ansley Smith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
A Rosary will be recited by the Rosary Group on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. .
