Opelousas Services for Amy Matte Marks will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012, in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Sacred Heart Church Mausoleum in Port Barre, La. Deacon Sammy Diesi will conduct the service.
Mrs. Amy Marks passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 8:30 p.m. at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas, La. where she resided for 5 years. Amy was born on December 19, 1919 and was 92 years old.
Amy lived in Opelousas most of her life and her final occupation was a dedicated teacher since 1966 at the Irene Shute Day Care Center which later became Opelousas Developmental Center. Amy and Mrs. Doris Castille were the original teachers hired to oversee the school which grew to have 140 students and 8 full time staff members. Amy worked until she retired at the age of 71 years old. After retirement she loved to travel but her greatest satisfaction was spoiling her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Amy was married to wonderful husband of 67 years, Joe Marks, who died in 2006 at the age of 92.
They have a devoted son, Harry Marks and wife, Margaret, of Opelousas, La. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Leroy Marie Duplechain of Gonzales, La. three grandchildren, Sandy Mitch Ortego Trena Shannon Ardoin Anna John Carpenter six greatgrandchildren, Terry Angela Carly William Robyn Rocky Derek Ki Ki Alexis and Mallory Gillen three greatgreat grandchildren, Kaylee, Paisley and Bentley.
Amy was preceded in death by parents, Terville and Theophine Matte, six brothers, Emile, Eddie, Olide, Edrin, Ben and Araste and three sisters, Ada, Ella and Amelia Na Na.
Pallbearers will be Mitch and Terry Ortego, Shannon Ardoin, John Carpenter, Derek Richard and Leroy Marks.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the loving staff and Senior Village Nursing Home and Dr. Richard Tate. The family would also like to thank the LHC Group and LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
