Opelousas - A Memorial Mass for Allen "T-Lan" Ardoin, age 87, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas; a rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Ardoin was a native of Chataignier and a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Ardoin served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1946 until 1948. He was the Deputy Tax Assessor for the Evangeline Parish Courthouse for 28 years. For over 53 years he played with many local Cajun bands, which allowed him to enjoy his passion of playing the fiddle. Mr. Ardoin played with Belton Richard and the Musical Aces, the Balfa Brothers, Austin Pitre, and the Cajun Fever Cajun Band. He was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1995, Fred's Louge-KVPI Wall of Fame in 1998, and the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame in 2001. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Miller Ardoin of Opelousas; son, Gary Ardoin and wife, Tina Guillot Ardoin of Youngsville; daughter, Connie Ardoin Durand and husband, Cliff "Sonny" Durand of Baton Rouge; sister, Jeanette Ardoin Simoneaux and husband, Lebon Simoneaux of Opelousas; and four grandchildren, Kacey Ardoin of Baton Rouge, Eric Ardoin of Newport, RI, Alex Durand of Lafayette, and Corey Durand of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayas Ardoin and Aza Manuel Ardoin and one sister, Marjorie A. Pitre.
