Aline Lafond

September 30, 1920 — November 10, 2012

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 2 PM at Saint Landry Catholic Church concelebrated by Reverend James Brady and Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen for Miss Aline Elise Lafond, who died peacefully on Saturday morning, November 10, 2012. Interment will be in the Bellevue Memorial Cemetery following the Mass.
Miss Lafond was born in Opelousas on September 30, 1920. She graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. She worked in St. Martinville as a Public Health nurse until she joined the Louisiana State University Surgical Unit of the United States Army at the beginning of World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy as a surgical nurse.
After the war she earned a B.S. degree in nursing from Southwestern Louisiana Institute ULL and a M.S. in medical social work from St. Louis University in Missouri. She also certified as a Funeral Director. She served at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pineville, Louisiana from the 1950s until the early 1990s.
She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization PEO , the Charity Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, the American Legion, the National WWII Museum, the Women Veterans of Louisiana, the Ladies Elks Auxilliary, and a lifetime parishioner of Saint Landry Catholic Church.
Miss Lafond is survived by her beloved nephew, Dr. Henry J. Kaufman III and his wife, Charlotte, of Baton Rouge,Louisiana, four great nieces and nephews: Dr. Henry Kaufman IV and his wife, Kelli of Lafayette, Elizabeth Hildenbrand and her husband, Dr. John Hildenbrand IV of Thibodaux, Courtenay Mendell and her husband, John J. Mendell of Lafayette, and William Kaufman of Lafayette, and nine great grand nieces and nephews, all of whom affectionately called her Punkin.
Miss Lafond was known for her loving and kind nature and her ability to stay in touch with her many cousins and friends, too numerous to name, but all of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Lafond and Marie Louise Titard and her siblings, Achille Lafond, Didier Lafond, Celeste Lafond Sister Mary Joseph Lafond, D.C. and Juliette Lafond Kaufman.
The family wishes to thank the extraordinary medical and nursing staff of Opelousas General Hospital for their care and competence and also her caretaker companions Sarah Williams and Barbara Nugent, and Lucile and Leroy Thomas.
Visitation is Monday night from five until eight and Tuesday from 11:30 until time of service.There will be a rosary at 6:00 PM Monday.
Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please remember her to ones chosen charity or to St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.
