Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 for Alice Mae Meche Sylvester at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Ms. Sylvester, age 79 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Opelousas General Health Systems.
Ms. Alice was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a well-known, talented seamstress for many years. Ms. Alice babysat and was known to many as "Maw Alice". She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sons; Gregory Sylvester (Mona) and Daren Sylvester; daughters, Rose Hicks (Nelson) and Sheila Thomassee (Timmy); grandchildren, Kurt Williamson (Lacey), Lacie Lejeune (Jeremy), Blaire Ewing (Durwin), Jantzen Sylvester, Cade Sylvester, Ryan Sylvester, Paige Salhi (Meaux), Megan Sylvester, Lane Thomassee and Jordan Thomassee; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Ernest Sylvester; parents, Narcisse Meche and Delphine Stelly Meche; and brothers, Leroy Meche and Wilbern Meche.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. It will resume on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 on Sunday evening by Deacon Sammy Diesi.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Williamson, Ryan Sylvester, Lane Thomassee, Jordan Thomassee, Jantzen Sylvester and Cade Sylvester.
