Alice Meche

August 5, 1919 — May 28, 2015

Opelousas - A Funeral Service will be held for Alice Dupre Meche, age 95, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015, in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Reverend Charles Ray will conduct the service. Interment will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.

Mrs. Meche was a native of Grand Prairie, LA and a current resident of Bunkie. She died peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Bayou Vista Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Alice had a green thumb and could grow anything she planted. She especially loved her flowers and her collection of dolls. She was always known for her love of cooking, sewing and canning. Alice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family dearly and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her sons, Joseph "J.C." Clarence Meche of Cottonport, LA; Donald Meche and wife, Lorraine, of Vidalia, LA; Eddie Meche and wife, Lisa, of Plaucheville, LA; Philip Meche and wife, Germaine, of Cottonport, LA; her daughters, Frances Foret Marks of Washington, LA; Edna Mae Turner of Cottonport, LA and Helen Bordelon and husband, J. Rachael, of Hemphill, TX. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 1/2years, Clarence Joseph Meche; her parents, Gussie Dupre, Sr. and Lola Fontenot Dupre.; her brothers, L.T., Lamart, Harris, Gussie, Jr., Dallas Dupre; her sisters, Bathile Fruge, Della Fontenot, Mary Stuart, Joyce Marks, Anna Mae Marcantel; her grandson, Michael Brent Foret; her sons-in-law, Joseph P. Foret, Aristide Marks, Raymond Turner and her daughter-in-law, Lorraine Lemoine Meche.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Foret, Evans Meche, Errol Knott, Scott Meche, Eddie "Jamie" Meche, Jr. and Philip Meche, Jr.

Visiting hours will be observed beginning on Friday, May 29, 2015 in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. by the Ladies Altar Society of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington.
