Alice Hanks Labus, age 81, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and long time resident of Edinburg passed away to be with the Lord on Friday May 14, 2009. She had been residing at the J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville, Louisiana.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
She was born to Alexander and Ella Hanks in Crowley, Louisiana on January 25, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clem Labus, also a resident of Edinburg. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Best husband Vernon of Ashton, Maryland and two sons, Patrick wife Ginger of Carencro, Louisiana and Michael wife Pat of Parker, Colorado and a grandson, Dr. Jason Grove of Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Labus has numerous nieces and nephews throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Mrs. Labus was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. She had worked for South Western Bell Telephone Company and the First National Bank in Edinburg. Mrs. Labus and her husband owned and managed the Sun Place and John Henrys nightclubs in Edinburg, which were very popular entertainment spots for local and winter Texans.
