Alfred Benoit, Sr.

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Alfred L. Benoit, Sr., age 80, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Benoit, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 7:45 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System.

Alfred served his country proudly in the United States National Guard for eight years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Ortego Benoit, of Opelousas, LA; his sons, Dwain Benoit and wife, Stephanie, of Opelousas, LA; Alfred L. Benoit (Bubba), Jr. and wife, Trisha, of Opelousas, LA; his daughter, Meg B. Fontenot and husband, Shaine, of Leonville, LA and his sister, Zula Darbonne of Ville Platte, LA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Rachael R. Tresner and husband, Jarret of Opelousas, LA; Joshua Benoit and wife, Megan, of Opelousas, LA; Kaleb Aaron Benoit of Opelousas, LA; Kristie Lynn Benoit of Opelousas, LA; Senior Airman Jonah S. Fontenot and companion, Stephanie Sumrall, of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Jada Fontenot and fiancé, Jon Nellis, of Leonville, LA; Beau Hunter Benoit of Opelousas, LA and Caden Jacob Journet of Opelousas, LA. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Sophia Elizabeth Benoit, Cole Eliotte Soileau, Jarret Tresner, Jr., Pearceton Tresner and Landon Tresner all of Opelousas, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean' and Maydell Stelly, his daughter, Dwauna Marie Benoit, his brothers, Leon Benoit, Leo Benoit, Antoine Benoit and his sisters, Ledia Wilks, Elodia Richard, Louise Babineaux, Theresa Menard and Thelma Richard.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Tom Lindsey at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 until time of services.
