Albert Louis Soileau passed away on September 3, 2023, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was born on January 13, 1934, in Washington, Louisiana. Albert served in the military and was a proud veteran of the army.

Albert was dedicated fraud investigator and former head of the fraud unit for welfare investigations. With a career spanning over 30 years, Albert devoted his life to fighting fraud and ensuring justice. His commitment and expertise in his field were widely recognized and respected. He diligently worked towards safeguarding the welfare system and protecting individuals from fraudulent activities.

Beyond his professional life, Albert had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. He loved spending time outdoors, tending to his yard and garden with his green thumb. Woodworking was another passion of his, as he created beautiful pieces with his skilled hands. Additionally, Albert dedicated himself to researching the history of St. Landry Catholic Church. His knowledge was so extensive that he would give tours to others, sharing his profound understanding of the church's rich heritage. He also played a vital role in restoring the church's record books.

Albert's passing leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Irene Soileau; his son, Christopher Soileau, of Opelousas; and grandchildren, Katie Soileau of Pineville, Thomas Soileau and fiancé Allison Willard, of Monroe, and Mary Soileau, of Carencro.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Louise Fisher Soileau; grandparents Rosamond Jr. and Eliska Fontenot Soileau and Albert and Marie Antoinette Pierell Fisher; brothers, Willis Soileau and Fr. Charles Soileau; sisters, Frances Ortego and Alice "Ticky" McClelland; and infant son, Charles Francis Soileau.

Albert's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, who find solace in the cherished moments they shared with him throughout his remarkable life.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. The visitation will continue on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Landry Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. The Rite of Committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Hood, Ronald Wells, Hugh Pinckard, Adam Carter, Thomas McClelland and Thomas Soileau. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Huguet and Mark Ortego.
