Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017 for Mr. Al Terry Fontenot at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate the Mass with Father Gary Schexnayder as the concelebrant. Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Al Terry Fontenot, age 69 and a resident of Nuba, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Mr. Al Terry Fontenot is a Retired Veteran of the United States Air Force, who honorably served in the Vietnam War. After working a lifetime in the oilfield industry as a welder and pipefitter, he retired as a Lead Supervisor in 2011. Al loved animals and worked as a "part-time farmer", raising cattle, horses, pigeons and doves. He also enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, camping and cooking. In his retirement days, he liked to spend his time cutting grass and going to church; he also got into recycling and repurposing aluminum. Al cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a faithful and caring man that will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Patricia "Pat" Martin Fontenot of Nuba; sons, Al Jacob Fontenot of Lafayette and Colby Heinzen and wife, Kyla of Opelousas; daughters, Rachel L. Fontenot of Lafayette, Jessica A. Fontenot of Opelousas and Megan Jo Fonenot and husband, Daniel Soileau of Ville Platte; step-son, Larry Heinzen and wife, Amy of Leonville; brothers, Norbert Fontenot and wife, Rebecca of Ville Platte, Jimmy Keith Fontenot and wife, Bernadette of Ville Platte and Eddie Luke Fontenot and wife, Mary of Winnsboro, TX; grandchildren, AlLee Jo Fontenot, Gabriel Heinzen, Candace Broussard, Kylor Broussard and Nathan Fontenot; step-grandchildren, Morgan Heinzen and Blake Heinzen; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie R. Senegal, Kaynon Senegal, Kolston Senegal, MaKenli Broussard and Aubrey Broussard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard PZ Fontenot and Marie Eve Ardoin Fontenot.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with an all-night wake until Monday, July 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
Pallbearers will be Colby Heinzen, Jacob Fontenot, Daniel Soileau, Norbert Fontenot, Kylor Broussard, Nathan Fontenot, Jimmy Keith Fontenot and Dennis Quebedeaux.
