Krotz Springs - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 for Alfred R. Smith at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Father Michael DeBlanc will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Cemetery.

Alfred R. Smith, age 85, was a native of China, Texas and for the last 63 years he made Krotz Springs his home. Mr. Smith passed away at his home on July 11, 2018 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Grace Speyrer Smith of Leonville; three sons and three daughters, Kenneth Wayne Smith and his wife, Melissa O'Connor, Carol Ann Vidrine and her husband, Jesse "Tiny" Vidrine, William Lee "Billy" Smith and his wife, Wendy Dupre, Mary Soileau, Marvin Lynn Smith and his wife, Dottie Mistric Smith and Cheryl Penley, all of Krotz Springs. He is also survived by his sister Jean Metrejean Guillory and her husband, Larry Guillory of Port Barre; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleven and Odelia Leger Smith; and his only brother, David Smith of China, Texas.

Mr. Smith was a Marine in the Korean war. He was a master carpenter by trade and he retired from the Carpenter's Local #1098 in Baton Rouge, La, and from Valero Refinery in Krotz Springs, La.

Mr. Smith enjoyed working in his garden, making wine and building furniture. His craftsmanship was like no other and those who knew him were in awe of what he could do with wood. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Smith will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Krotz Springs. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday Evening. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Smith, Justin Smith, Seth Smith, Cody Penley, Travis Vidrine and Owen Vidrine. Honorary Pallbearers will be William "Billy" Smith and Marvin Smith.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hospice Nurses Jill and Renee and to the team at Bridgeway Hospice.
